Yooperlite Meaning

Yooperlites are syenite rocks that are rich in fluorescent sodalite. The chemical composition of syenite is very similar to that of granite; however, unlike granite, they are deficient in quartz.

Where To Find Yooperlite Rocks

If you’ve never spent a significant amount of time near the Great Lakes, you may not know that the northern of the two landmasses that make up the state of Michigan is known as the Upper peninsula, or the U. P. colloquially.

Yooperlites, as the name suggests, are found in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, specifically along the Lake Superior coast. You can find them mostly along the eastern beaches of Lake Superior, from Grand Marais to Sault Ste. Marie, however, they’re found along the Keweenaw Peninsula as well.

The Grand Marais area in Alger County on the eastern side of the Upper Peninsula is a popular place to go searching for Yooperlites. Beaches on the Keweenaw Peninsula, the northernmost landmass on the Upper Peninsula, is also a great place to look for Yooperlites, not to mention a great place for hiking and sightseeing.

Yooperlite Healing Properties

Yooperlite has the same properties as sodalite, it is indeed a syenite with fluorescent sodalite. It prevents water retention and improves cellular hydration, while promoting the regulation of blood pressure and heart rate. Yooperlite is also known to relieve the symptoms of menopause and to reduce inflammation, fever, headaches, sinus infections and muscle tension. It can also be useful in the treatment of the throat, vocal cords and larynx, in particular to relieve hoarseness and laryngitis. Finally, sodalite would settle digestion disorders.
